PIANO 2023: Competitor

 

Born in 1994 in Taipei, Taiwan, Zu-An Shen began studying piano at the age of seven. In 2011, he moved to Paris to study at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Erik Berchot. After graduation, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. During this time he studied with Roger Muraro, Frank Braley, Claire-Maire Le Guay, and Michel Dalberto and received a bachelor’s degree in 2018 and a master’s degree in 2020. In 2017 he won first prize in the Cognac International Piano Competition and second prize in the 15th Giuliano Pecar International Piano Competition. In 2021 he is a medalist of the 66th Maria Canals International Piano Competition. He performed with the City of Grosseto Symphony Orchestra in Italy in 2017. Between 2017 and 2023, he also performed in France, Spain, Italy and Germany, including recitals and chamber music concerts. He is currently studying at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with Philippe Bianconi. In May 2022, he received the Diplôme Supérieur de Concertiste (Artist Diploma) with the highest award granted by the school. In the summer of 2022 he performed at several music festivals in Europe, most notably being invited to perform with the Orchestre National de Cannes and at the Chopin Festival in Nohant. In June 2023, he performed at the Chopin Festival in Paris.
