THE JURY

THE JURY OF THE OPERA SINGING COMPETITION

 

The Jury of the Viotti International Music Competition is composed of Italian and foreign prominent musicians, musicologist, critics and artists.

The Viotti International Music Competition of Vercelli has two juries: the pre-selection jury and the competition jury.
The pre-selection jury, which assesses the candidates who have applied to take part in the Competition, consists of three members.
The Competition jury, which will be responsible for selecting and awarding the contestants invited to Vercelli, is composed of seven members, three of Italian nationality and four foreigners.

 

VOTING PROCEDURES (extract from the jury rules)

 

PRE-SELECTION JURY

The pre-selection Jury will express their judgement by means of a ‘YES’ (with a mark in the adjacent column between 90 and 100 points) or a ‘NO’.

In the event of uncertainty, a vote of 50 to 89 must be given in the YES/NO column.

Contestants with three YES votes will be admitted to the competition, followed by contestants with two YES votes and the highest mark (YES/NO), with one YES and the highest average mark (YES/NO), with three YES and the highest average mark, with two YES and one NO and the highest average mark, with one YES and two NO and the highest mark. Should there be a large number of candidates with three YES votes, we will proceed to calculate the score in the column of YES votes.

 

JURY OF THE COMPETITION

I. Admission to semifinal round

At the semifinal round are allowed thirty (30) candidates maximum.

Each member of the Jury shall vote YES or NO. The candidates who obtain the largest number of YES will be admitted to the next round.

In the event that the last group of candidates with the same number of YES would lead to a too high number of admissions, there will be a new vote only for this group to obtain the desired number of admissions to the semifinal round.

II. Admission to final

To the final round of the Singing Competition will be allowed a maximum of eight (8) candidates.

Each member of the Jury will express its vote from 70 to 100.

The first eight candidates classified in the ranking will be admitted to the Final round.

Should two or more candidates have obtained the same vote in the eighth place of the ranking list, a new vote will be held between these candidates in order to rank only one of them.

III. Final ranking

Formulation of the final ranking of the Singing Competition.

Each Commissioner will give its vote from 70 to 100.

For the award of the first prize will be necessary to reach an average of 90.

For the award of second prize will be necessary to reach an average of 85.

For the assignment of the third prize will be necessary to achieve an average of 80.

The President of the Jury may add, if he feels up to 15 cents for each candidate.
